Before writing this tutorial, I upgraded my own Galaxy Grand Duos to Android 4.2.2 in the same sequence as mentioned here so just keep going and you will have a lot more fun with your device shortly!
This firmware (Android 4.2.2) is meant to be installed only on Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos bearing model number GT-19082. Implementing this guide on any other model or device (I repeat, on any other model!) might give you undesired results. Your device will be bricked if you flash this firmware on any other device than Grand Duos GT-19082.
You can confirm your device’s model number by following this path on your phone:
Home Screen / Menu / Settings / About device.
- Galaxy Grand Duos GT-19082.
- PC running Windows OS.
- Compatible USB data cable (preferably the one that has come with the device).
- Flashing Program / Tool called “Odin v3.07”. To download “Odin v3.07” click here: http://android.sc/download-odin-3-07/
- Android 4.2.2 XXUBMHD Jelly Bean Firmware. To download “Adroid 4.2.2 firmware” click here: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/243639040/469cbd2/I9082XXUBMHD_I9082ODDBMH3_INU.zip.html
- In order to establish a connection between phone & “Odin”, device specific drivers (Samsung Drivers) are necessary and must be installed on your computer. To install appropriate Samsung USB Driver click here: https://hotfile.com/dl/231657044/3611f6c/USB_Driver_188.8.131.52.rar.html
- Backup all of your contents present on your phone as this will factory reset your device and all of its data will be erased.
- Charge up your phone at least up to 50%. This will help you make sure that the process will be completed without any interruptions. Be on the safe side.
Extract firmware package (.zip file) to desktop on your computer. After extraction, you’ll get a file with .tar.md5 extension (Ignore the second file).
Now, turn off the phone completely. Boot into download mode. For this, press & hold Volume down + Home button simultaneously, while holding these two buttons, simply press Power key (As shown below).
You will see the warning message.
Ignore the message & Press Volume up to continue. Finally you’ll see the Green Android robot & “downloading…” text written below it. It means your phone has booted into download mode.
Open “Odin v3.07” from PC & connect your phone to the computer (using compatible USB cable).
If your phone is connected successfully, you’ll see that the ID:COM section (located at top left of Odin Window) has turned blue with a random COM port number appeared within it. Also, you’ll see “Added” text appeared in message box (As shown below).
In Odin window, tick “PDA” tab & choose “I9082XXUBMHD_I9082ODDBMH3_I9082DDUBMH2_HOME.tar.md5″ the Android Fiemware 4.2.2 file you have just downloaded. Keep all the remaining settings to default, tick the “RE BOOT” box (if not by default) & MAKE SURE YOU HAVE REMAINED UNCHECKED “RE-PARTITION” BOX.
Finally, hit the “Start button” and wait till “Odin” loads the firmware on your device. When flashing process gets over, Odin will show the “PASS” message above ID:COM (with the Green background color) & device will restart automatically.
However if your phone gets stuck or you get a “FAIL” message (with Red background color) then close the Odin window, disconnect phone from computer, remove battery and re-insert it. Now, follow the same procedure again.
Unplug the device from Computer (only if you get “PASS” message in “Odin”).
Now you will need to factory reset the phone in order to make it function in a normal way (this is required even if you successfully boot into Android 4.2.2 Home Screen).
To factory reset the phone, you’ll have to boot into recovery mode.
- Switch off the phone
- Press & hold Volume up + Home Button together & by holding the two, press Power key. Release Power button as soon as ‘Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos GT-19082’ appears on the screen. But keep holding other two till you get into recovery mode. (As shown below)
Your device is now booted in recovery mode.
Since touch won’t work here, you will have to use Volume up/down for navigation & power key to select item.
Now go to “wipe data/factory reset” by using Volume buttons & select it using power key. The same you have to do with “wipe Cache partition”.
After performing these two actions, finally hit “reboot system now” option to restart the phone.
Your phone might take more time to boot than it takes normally. Don’t do anything except WAIT!
As soon as phone starts, go through the initial setup, enter your Google Account and finally press Finish button to complete the setup.
GREAT JOB! You have made it! You’ve successfully flashed latest firmware for your Galaxy Grand Duos I9082. Let us know if you face any difficulty while performing the steps mentioned in this tutorials, report it in the comments below, we’ll try our best to come up with a solution for that.
